I really do think an under-considered difference between 2017 and 2025 is, during the first Trump administration, those of us calling ourselves the Resistance could look forward to a time beyond Trump. We could work towards the end of his first term, push for a Democrat in the White House, champion the rule of law, hope he'd end up in prison. Remember how we all hoped Trump would do time? How carefully we followed his many trials? How long we fucking waited and waited for the Bdiden administration and District Attorneys to get their poop in a group? How agonizing it was watching each of them fall apart? And watch as the one ball the lawyers got across the goal line ended up meaning nothing?

Anyway, the difference is, in 2017 we could imagine that the proper channels would lead us to a proper result (see also: Yoon Suk Yeol, Marine Le Pen) but now we have to accept that we're stuck with these right-wing assholes forever. Unless we can get to a Nuremberg type solution. Or maybe a Piazzale Loreto kind of thing.
