What The Fuck, America?

NEW COMIC TWO OR THREE TIMES A WEEK, OR WHEN THE MOOD STRIKES

Before you bring up all the stupid arguments about why it's okay to arrest and deport Mahmoud Khalil:

  • He's not a student. He finished his master's degree program but has not yet graduated and lives in student housing. That's still a student. But also, guess what? Non-students also have First Amendment rights!
  • He supports terrorism. There's no evidence of this at all. If there were, you have to imagine we'd have heard about it by now.
  • He endorses violence. There's no evidence of this either but also, guess what? That's covered by the First Amendment too! See Brandenburg v. Ohio and Hess v. Indiana.
  • Only natural-born citizens deserve free speech protections. Also wrong!
  • The First Amendment only applies to the federal government, not private institutions like Columbia University. Note that Khalil was not disappeared by Columbia administrators. Those jackbooted thugs were just fulfilling the administration's fondest wish, which is to look tough on Muslims and other undesireables while still raking in federal money.
  • Khalil wasn't disappeared, he's right here! Yes, people finally figured out where he was taken and got lawyers in touch. It took an enormous outcry. Do you suppose there'll be an enormous outcry for you? Also, the feds sure did their best to make him hard to find, and are actually using their moving him around to deny jurisdiction to courts that might try to rein them in.

Anyway, leopards, faces, you know the whole thing.
