What The Fuck, America?

NEW COMIC TWO OR THREE TIMES A WEEK, OR WHEN THE MOOD STRIKES

Trump, Hegseth, and the Republicans keep showing they have no understanding of the military of the United States or how modern wars are fought. Trump wants outdated aircraft carrier technology, rants about how steel is better than aluminum for some reason, and clearly thinks wars are won by the most vicious, physically strong specimens. Hegseth, meanwhile, clearly thinks "warriors" can do lots of push-ups and are clean-shaven. I'd say they're fighting yesterday's conflicts but that's giving them too much credit; they're thinking of World War II at best, and that's not even yesterday any more.

Military culture in the United States has moved on beyond these stereotypical notions of manliness and strength through suffering. I can't find the reference now but one military official noted that this "warrior ethos" Hegseth wants to being back, while superficially attractive, was rejected, not because officers and drill sergeants have gone soft, but because it doesn't work as well. The military is stronger when it's diverse and everyone hasn't been abused and tortured in the name of training "warriors".

It almost seems as if these clowns are trying to undermine the American military from within. Now why would they want to do that?

Anyway, here's a good essay on warriors vs soldiers, although it's about Australia.
