We've reached the stage of the regime where officials openly explain they're staging a military coup while having their goons physically attack elected officials of the opposition. Trump is claiming there's some kind of emergency in Los Angeles because someone set a Waymo on fire. Poor Waymo, we hardly knew him. Them. Whatever.

The military coup is being spearheaded by unwilling Marines who know this is bullshit. They've been trained to refuse unlawful military orders but, as Stonekettle noted on Threads, "You expect a 19-year-old Marine to risk his own liberty, freedom, and perhaps life to stand against the the orders of the President, when Congress and the Courts will not? When the generals will not? When the police will not?" It's a tough thing to do, to ask a soldier on the ground to parse what's illegal and what isn't.

Plus, of course, there are almost certainly soldiers who just like hurting people.
