Turbine: Wow, things are going great! Wind power is more widespread than ever before and the tech keeps improving! Turbine: With huge leaps forward in batteries and other forms of energy storage, wind has become one of the best sources of electricity in the world! There's just one obstacle we have yet to overcome! Turbine: Republicans! Oh well!

NEW COMIC TWO OR THREE TIMES A WEEK, OR WHEN THE MOOD STRIKES

The putative head of the Republican Party, the President of the United States, has been ranting and raving about wind and solar power for about as long as he's been opening his yap, and now he's canceling -- somehow, through some heretofore unknown power of the presidency -- offshore wind projects, even when they're nearly complete. The part of small government and fewer regulations is deciding, on the whim of one man, that wind power is "the scam of the century". Meanwhile my electric bill went up by like a bazillion dollars, but, hey, we don't want cheap, emissions-free power! (And yes, I know wind power involves some emissions from manufacturing and decommissioning. I get that it's not free.)

Paul Krugman has an excellent essay on this. Batteries have gotten significantly better (and yes, I know there are emissions costs there, too). Many places around the world are getting significant portions of their power from renewables. The U.S. is too! But we're going to be getting less, not more, because Trump is an asshole and the GOP is a pack of enablers.
