Sheep: The Supreme Court has ruled that it's okay for ICE to detain people for speaking Spanish. Goat: Don't exaggerate! In addition they can detain people for looking foreign and also working! Sheep: Funny coming from this court when it's Chief Justice John Roberts who wrote, "The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race." Goat: For stops of those individuals who are legally in the country, the questioning in those circumstances is typically brief. Sheep: "Typically" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. Goat: When you get to the detention center, remember: ¿Donde esta el baño?

I'll leave it to others to point out the hypocrisy of this ruling. Technically the ruling is just a lifting of a stay of a lower court, but SCOTUS has been doing a lot of that lately, just bagging on the lower courts like they're poorly performing employees at the local 7-11.

It isn't funny at all, actually, that John Roberts is capable of deploying a pithy phrase like the one quoted in the comic when he wants to strike down laws reckoning with America's racist systems but then can turn around and decide racial discrimination is a-okay, really. It also isn't funny to read a Supreme Court justice writing that unconstitutional stops are not really an inconvenience...if you're innocent. Considering this was written by a guy who wept when confronted with credible evidence of his attempt to rape a woman, it's not amusing at all.
