Fisher: What if the Republicans are playing 76-dimensional chess with the Epstein files? Raccoon: I don't think anyone needs to work that hard to discombobulate the Democrats. Fisher: What if they know there's nothing in them but innuendo, creepiness, and bad spelling, and the whole shutdown was a ruse to make it seem like they were hiding something really damning.... Raccoon: That's a lot of unnecessary work to get Dems to put all their eggs in a basket without a bottom. Fisher: Now the Democrats will look really stupid, betting so heavily on the Epstein files! Raccoon: If you really want to make Dems look stupid, you only need to wait for them to do it themselves.

What else is there to say? The Democrats are experts at walking around and stepping on their own dick. The only surprise is how they're going to fuck up next time. Do I think the Republicans are capable of a plan this devious? No. They're not supervillains, they're wannabe mafiosos who wouldn't survive the actual mafia more than a week. But do I think the Epstein files are unlikely to make a difference? Do I think Trump's apparent fear of the files coming to light is overblown? I do. I want very much to see the Trump regime torpedoed and sunk into the Marianas Trench. But I remain pessimistic.
