Fisher: Twenty armed U.S. Marshals, ICE agents, and FBI stormed a house in Oklahoma, forcing the women and children there to cower in the rain in their underwear while they ransacked the house and stole all their valuables. Raccoon: That sure sounds like a police state! Fisher: Thanks to qualified immunity and decades of Supreme Court precedent, there's no way to hold anyone accountable for this. Raccoon: That's because we want a police state. Fisher: Speak for yourself. Raccoon: We crave a police state. And I'm turning you in.

The only reason qualified immunity even exists is because Americans clearly want a police state. If there's anything that's had bipartisan support across blue and red states for nearly a hundred years, it's the expansion of police and prosecutorial power in America. For a brief moment in the 1950s and '60s it looked as if the Supreme Court might actually be an ally against the Constitution-destroying police state that was consolidating its power, but in the end all it did was convince Boomer liberals that the courts were their friends, leading directly to Chuck Schumer and his strongly-worded letter approach to governing. At no point has any elected official seriously pushed back on police power, and when the Defund the Police movement started to gain traction, it was immediately pulled over and shot by the side of the highway.

If we the people don't want a police state, it's clear we need to raze the entire current system and start over.
