Hippo: It's been a quiet few days under the Trump regime. Hippo: Trump is accepting a $400-million-dollar plane from Qatar in direct violation of the Constitution. Hippo: He's also decided to give in to the Chinese government and reduce his insane tariffs in return for...nothing. The good news is the tariff threat only destroyed a bunch of small American businesses, not all of them. Hippo: Trump further decided to end the popular and effective Energy Star program in order to "Power the Great American Comeback". Hippo: Finally, rather than try to get Senate approval for the U.S. Attorney for D.C., Trump's just tagged in TV host Jeanine Pirro as another interim U.S. attorney. Hippo: This is what passes for calm these days.

I had a heck of a time coming up with anything specific for today. The courts are still working grindingly slowly on cases like Kilmar Abrego Garcia's, because our courts are apparently incapable of acting decisively when it's clear one party isn't engaging in good faith. And, damn, I forgot the Trump regime has floated the idea of ending habeas corpus.

Anyway, in case you want links for the nonsense Hippo is talking about: Trump's lickspittle lawyers will make any excuse but the Constitution is pretty clear about "no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State." Fun fact: Qatar doesn't have a king but it does have an Emir, a Prince, and it is a foreign state, so it's a kind of trifecta.

Beijing is doing a little victory dance after Trump collapsed like a bronzer-soaked tissue.

The White House is illegally attempting to end the Energy Star program, probably because it's popular and successful.

And, sigh, Jeanine Pirro. It may not seem like a big deal to everyone who happens to hold the office of US attorney for Washington, DC, except the previous interim asshole, Ed Martin, is the guy who summarily fired the prosecutors who worked on convicting the insurrectionists of January 6, 2021. Think of the havoc walking punchline Judge Jeanine can cause!
