What The Fuck, America?

NEW COMIC TUESDAYS AND FRIDAYS AND WHEN THE MOOD STRIKES

Trump's two truly big moves have been, first, the neglect and planned dismantling of the administrative state, and second, ceding effective civilian control of the United States military. Trump's letting "Mad Dog" Mattis decide how many troops he needs for, you know, whatever and allowing General Joseph Votel at CENTCOM to turn in substandard homework. Meanwhile, although no one is saying there's been any change in the rules of engagement, civilian casualties of U.S. military strikes overseas are increasing, although given U.S. reporting and its pretending allies aren't killing people it's a little hard to be sure what's going on.

There's a reason the Commander-in-Chief of the United States Armed Forces is a civilian (and shouldn't be saluting anyone) and it's not because we like our military to get its ass kicked. Danny Sjursen explains why in some detail but the short version is this: The military always wants more and it's nearsighted. If you don't keep civilian control over the military pretty soon it expands to engulf absolutely everything.
